  • Why is there no weight limit in the heavyweight division, but all other divisions do?

I've always been curious about this.

Why is there no weight limit in the heavyweights, but all other divisions are very strict on weight?

For a time, there was little need. Today, generally, not enough quality guys to make 2 separate divisions. I personally think 220 needs to be it's own division. That would have killed a lot of historic matches though.

There should be a limit of ~300 to prevent another Valuev from happening.

Idk, better there should certainly be a Super Heavy Weight Division vut even then that wouldn't help much.

The main problem I see is guys 7 inches taller than there opponent, they weigh the same but a 230 6'2 guy has very little chance against a 6'9 guy who isn't a slob and somewhat atlethic.

Heavyweight is the only openweight class in boxing; show up at whatever weight you want and fight. Basically how the sport started, tbh

That is the whole idea of being a heavyweight. You are big enough to fight any boxer regardless of their weight. Boxing has rarely had a giant for a champion. Some of the best heavyweight champs in history were not that big and they defeated very large boxers. Here is the weight of some famous great heavyweight champions when they won the title. Marciano and Dempsey weighed 185. Louis weighed 198. Jack Johnson weighed 192. Sonny Liston weighed 212. Foreman weighed 218. They weren't giants but no giant could beat them. No weight limit is needed for heavyweights. It never has been and it never will be. Giant heavyweights are usually slow and clumsy. They don't punch harder than normal size heavyweights because their punches lack speed and technique. They are also short on stamina and often don't take a punch well. Fury and Wlad are about as big as good heavyweights get. Any heavyweights bigger than them will usually have their size work against them.

I left out Ali. He weighed 210 when he won the title and was as light as 201 in his title defenses.

Because **** it. Historically heavyweights normally were around 200lbs because a fight with more than 15 rounds usually benefits peak humans beings fighting at their natural size. So for instance when you get over 5'11, lung size stays relatively the same. Someone who is 6'5 with excess muscle would be at a disadvantage against a elite 6'ish boxer fighting at his natural weight because of his lungs and heart working more efficiently and less. Also once you get over 6' speed and movement jursastically decreases along with athleticism. For example it's easier for a 215lb Mike Tyson to fight a 250lb Bruno then a 150lb Pacquiao fighting a 165lb Canelo. Speed and athleticism drops off greatly once you start to get over 200lbs
