Just curious, if you win a title, and get the belt, then retire after you won the title or get beaten, can you keep the belt? Cuz those belts are damn gorgious!

Fighters get to keep a belt of there own that is part of the "fees" they pay. However, in most cases in a title fight the belts are handed over right there.

Sort of, yes...Most sanctioning fees arent cheap either...On average the belts cost anywhere between 1500-5000 thousand bucks....Some sanctioning fees can be 10k a fight.

I always wondered about this. The second Lewis/Rahman fight shed some light on the situation. When Lewis beat Rahman he was given the belts in the ring. He was supposed to carry them off to the dressing room (this makes for good pictures) and then give them back to Rahman later. Rahman would have some souvenirs of his brief reign and Lewis would get a new set of belts. The story at the time was that Lewis would not give the belts back. There was some real bad blood between the two.

actually, i think boxing belts are ugly as ****, with the exception of the WBC belts (now THOSE are some nice looking belts).

the other 3 organizations should commission the people who do pro wrestling belts to make their belts.

I just remember reading about this after the fight. Like you said, it's a great story that you don't forget. Maybe someone else can confirm or deny it.

More generally, can someone confirm that the new champ takes pictures with the belts, eventually gives those belts back to the old champ, and is then given new belts?

That's true, the belts are awarded/bought by the champion, when the old champ loses the belts, his belts are awarded to the new champ but only temporarily.
The new champ will be awarded his new belts in a ceremony held in his honor by that Boxing Organization.
Some champs customize their belts, Ricardo Lopez had diamonds added to his WBC strap.
