Seems opinions are split these days on what makes up a respectable boxing match. Some go for the all out Gatti-style, blood and guts, brawling as the only respectful way of conducting a boxing match, while others opt for the Mayweather-style, high accuracy, technical boxing. They are two extreme examples but which roundabout style do you respect more and why?

Which Style Do Respect More, Brawling Or Boxing?

I'm alot more into Boxining but acknowledge that Boxing would suck without variety of styles. As for respect, I respect both equally.

Certain boxers do a little of both, Calzaghe shows he can fight inside and out using his jab at times. Mayweather Jr has shown that he can fight inside and out too. And look at that they're both undefeated because no one can beat them and they've fought pretty good names even if you're pissed that they didn't fight someone you wanted them to.

I like a guy that does a little of both, profficiently. Pure boxers are great, but can get annoying when they refuse to try and put their opponents away when they outclass them by a wide margin, and constant brawling, in my opinion, just doesn't belong in a boxing ring. I like to see two highly skilled guys go at it, otherwise it's no fun for me to watch.

i enjoy and respect boxing more. dont like brawling at all. my favoutite type of fighter is the boxer-puncher, but as the name goes the boxing is always first. dont like guys who just take one to give one and put their head down and brawl, not entertaining to me. i want to see KOs as much as anyone else but i like skillful KOs, when people get set up. boxer punchers.. like the man in my avatar, aggressive but using his jab and boxing skills.

I respect both, Chavez & Joe Frazier are two of my favourite fighters because of the excitement they brought to the ring and because of their non stop aggression/pressure, they were straight up beasts.
That said Boxing requires you to have the nerve to be able to sit in the eye of the storm and have faith in your skills.
Believe it or not it takes more balls to box, any idiot can go out aggressively and let both hands go, but when you box you have to curb your natural instincts and there is larger risk of getting stopped imo, that might sound like a strange thing to say but the reason i say that is................when you meet the opponent head on, your offence can keep be your defence sometimes, but when you are trying Box you are invariably trying throw less punches and using angles/movement to make up for the fewer punches you are throwing, that can lead to you being overwhelmed by the opponent if your Boxing does not stick.
Everyone thinks of Tyson as a beast but i see him as a fighter who was fighting scared a lot of the time, to me he fought so ferociously because he could not stay composed with all the pent up fear and nerves he had inside him so he had to go out like a mad man to get those feelings out of his system before they consumed him.
