Modern Day Boxing sucks

Full of nothing but clout chasers and ****ty performances. Even when the best do fight the best it becomes some boring ****fest. Compare Fury Usyk to Holyfield Bowe (all 3 fights) and tell me boxers are now athletes and not fighters anymore. Now we have people defending proven drug cheats. Sad. Boxing is DEAD.

There are plenty of good fights out there nowadays (especially if you enjoy competitive matchups among the 2nd and 3rd tier fighters). We like to look back at the past and remember the good fights. They weren't all like that.

I remember as a kid sitting down to watch Michael Olajide versus Tommy Hearn's. What a snoozer....there were lots of fights "back in the day" that were tedious.

Watch Usyk v Joshua, then watch Fury v Usyk... then go and watch some 90s fights.

The 90s fights were fast and brutal. Great to watch and drew in casuals all over the world.

But they didn't move. They set up very little. They just walloped each other. Stamina was impressive but presumably the lax approach to drugs helped with maintaining their pace. Well that and the fact they were generally smaller (Holyfield was 20 pounds lighter than Usyk, even Bowe was only 10 pounds heavier!).

Go and compare Holyfield v Bowe to Fury v Usyk. They're light years apart in terms of skill.

I disagree. Holyfield Bowe fights were tactical infighting. Fury himself doesn’t have much skill, throwing a weak ass jab and not even connecting with a right hand. He just has high ring IQ which is why he’s elite. The fight was only good because of Usyk adjusting, and yes, Usyk and Crawford are the only two fighters not putting up ****ty performances

The thing is the best fighting the best isn’t on par. Compare duran leonard to garcía vs haney or garcía tank. Hell the 3 rounds of hagler hearns was more interesting than garcias entire career lmao

Yeah, we also forget that modern day boxing fans have the iq of a peanut when they continue to embarrass the sport by defending someone who tests positive for SARMs and PEDs, all because he beat a fighter they don’t like lmao

its not just this generations issue, the testing is just much better now

as for the quality thing, if u matched up AJ fury usyk with the earlier guys u dont know how it would turn out actually, it mightnt all turn out how u think it would do

I thought this year has been pretty good. Yes I wish Crawford and Boots were more active, we had Shakur v Loma and canelo v Benavidez, some other fights as well but there is still time.

Ryan cheating did ruin that fight and taint the sport yet again.

We’re not even half way through 2024. Plenty of time to have great fights, especially with the Saudis and Brits putting on a lot of cards.
