  • Comments Thread For: "Fighting Words" -- Pouring Cold Water on Naoya Inoue vs. Gervonta Davis

There is admittedly some irony to pouring cold water on the premise of Naoya Inoue vs. Gervonta "Tank" Davis not long after boxing's newest powerbroker poured gasoline on a potential fight between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez.

Don't know why this fight keeps getting brought up, why isn't Tank being linked to Fundora, Tszyu, Crawford.

Or better yet Canelo because that's tantamount to the seven weight divisions Inoue would've moved through to get this fight from the start of his career...

    108, 12, 15, 18, 22, 26, 30 and lastly 35 and 126, 30, 35, 40, 47, 54, 60 and 68 respectively for the equivalent Tank vs Canelo that's how absurd this is...

Davis and Stevenson are best advised to concentrate on people their own size. Inoue doesn't have to prove himself or pander to American audiences, he's earned his status and is a bonafide superstar in his home nation and greatly admired across the world

Good article. On point about the size and weight differences. Case in point , Charlo vs Canelo , yeah Charlo is taller but their body types are very different. Canelo is built like a tank while Jermell is very thin and long. Even between fights he's really skinny.

I don’t look at Inoue and Crawford in the same way! Inoue doesn’t want Tank, Bud WANTS Canelo! I give Bud a MUCH better chance of beating Canelo, than Inoue beating Tank! Lastly, Crawford has a MUCH better chance of beating Canelo than Berlanga!

Not sure why Virgil Hunter was talking about Inoue moving up 13 pounds to fight Tank Davis and then bringing up example of Charlo and Rigondeaux saying at least they tried although they lost. If they were so valiant then why doesn't Tank move up 12 pounds and fight Crawford or Boots Ennis, he already fought Barrios at 140 so another 7lbs isn't that much of a leap unlike Inoue going up to 135. Tank started out fighting at 126 so has moved up 14 pounds at one point in his career when fighting Barrios at 140lbs. Inoue started out at 108lbs and has also moved up 14lbs to compete at 122lbs, so why does Inoue have to move up another 13lbs to prove himself. Inoue will move up as his body fills out naturally and this is the right way to moved up, we all saw what happened to Roy Jones after his historic leap to Heavyweight he was never the same fighter when he came back down. It is better to move up gradually and naturally rather than leaping up the weight classes for big fights, Inoue is such a superstar in his own country he doesn't need Tank he is making his fortune in Japan right now fighting the best in his division and will continue to move up the weights when he is ready to do so.

Crawford has been in the same wgt class for the 6 yrs.
But Inoue moves up every 2 yrs.

Other than the monster, who does that? NOBODY.

Davis is 4 wgt classes above. Who started this rumor.

Tank vs Inoue isn't worth discussing because the weight disparity is far too great and neither of them want it for that reason. That is the long and short of it.

I kind of enjoyed the article, but it was sooooo long I genuinely started to wonder whether AI was auto generating the interminable deluge of words and had to scroll down to confirm the article was going to actually end...
