  • Comments Thread For: Tyson Fury: Size Won't Play a Factor in Oleksandr Usyk Fight

Tyson Fury doesn't believe that size will play a factor when he faces Oleksandr Usyk on May 18 for the undisputed heavyweight championship. Fury stands six inches taller than his rival Usyk and normally weighs in around 50 pounds heavier than the former undisputed cruiserweight champion. The 6ft 9ins heavyweight is known for using his size to break his opponents down, using it effectively in his three fights against Deontay Wilder. Despite his huge size advantage, Fury doesn't think it will play a part after Usyk proved he can handle big heavyweights with his performances against Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.

Size has played a factor in literally every single fight in the history of mankind. It just isn't always the determinative factor in the outcome.

Size is irrelevant. In past when bigger fighter wins people say it's because of the size? How about because they were better on night.
So when little guy beats big guy is it because of the small size that enabled small man to prevail?

This is a common Fury tactic, he'll down play his opponent no end and then he'll start heaping praise on them if he thinks he can beat them and make out they're absolute world beaters because IF he beats them it looks like he pulled off some monstrous feat.

Truth be told size has played a role in all of Furys fights and always will, be it weight or his abnormal wing span for someone who is 6'6 ½ in fact it could be argued it's been the deciding factor in most of his fights.

so does that mean if fury was 230 pounds the fight would be the same?

Size is 100% relevant. Imagine Fury was 6'3 he would not had been in the top 50 of the current HW

Size of ego will be the determining factor. Fury is desperately trying to shrink his while building Usyk's up.

Just more of that jedi-traveller mindfückery. Pay no mind!

Size definitely will matter, but thats okay. Being big and strong are athletic/physical attributes, and this is a sport; meaning athletic/physical attributes should matter. Its okay to win because you are bigger and stronger.
