  • Illegal sites damaging boxing .

I've read a few times by people in the industry that illegal internet streams are damaging the sport. Personally would never view these in a sport I love so much. Fighters get a big cut and less money in the pot means less likelihood of the top fights being made as per news reports. Deontay Wilder sums it up best :

"Fighters risk their lives for other’s entertainment,” and that they deserve big pay-per-view numbers that equal big paydays. “Stop f*****g stealing pay-per-views,” is Wilder’s message to the fans.

Source: Deontay Wilder: “Stop Stealing The F*****g Pay-Per-Views!” - Boxing News 24/7 (https://www.boxing247.com/boxing-new...r-views/260558)

    From another source

"Sports executive Stephen Espinoza says big fights aren’t getting made because of the PPV piracy from fans, who choose not to purchase pay-per-view fights and turn to illegal avenues to see the bouts for free."

Lower PPV prices so that the worker can afford them and there will be big decline in pirate streams, high prices is what create and propagates piracy, if PPV was say $20 pretty much all fans would buy the smooth 4k PPV.

Fair point but the way I see it as well is many people love football here in the United Kingdom and worldwide and some are prepared to pay £ 15- 20 a week for lower league standard and up to £45 or even more for higher up. Some pay season tickets which cost over £ 600 or even more. Compare that to boxing where a top fight can be no more than £ 27 give or take and these fights dont happen often.

For me boxing as a sport is purer than football eg humans have been doing it since time evolved and is tied into nature and survival of the fittest. Deserves to get more recognition and be a very popular sport like it use to be before greed and the varying boxing organisations diluted it somewhat over the years. Hopefully one day corruption can be largely weeded out and we start seeing the big fights being made more often.

The problem is if every fan started tuning into illegal streams the industry would be very badly damaged. Look at music piracy for one. Up to a third of songs I read recently are pirates. It's why the authorities are clamping down on it now and have closed sites like limewire which have caused so much damage to musicians .The same now is starting to happen to sporting illegal viewing sites including boxing . People who put up illegal content are starting to get dealt with by governments.

            Fugh right off
Why don’t you take a fughin paycut and make it more affordable for the casual to actually be interested in viewing/purchasing the event ?
Yes you do risk your life and permanent injury , does that mean mine is worth chit ?

Let' say 2 boxing ppv/month plus one UFC: that's about $235/month to watch sports. At home. AT HOME. No way should anyone pay that price

Thing is fighters don't fight often. Yes they make a lot of money but more money in the pot means a higher calibre of fighter . Hence there full time and can dedicate themselves to their craft more . Look at footballers for one. There's so much money in that game due to fan passion which funds the top players lives who are millionaires. In effect what are they doing kicking a ball about. It's the group belonging to a team which is the main driving force behind the business of football I feel. Since cavemen times people have belonged to groups eg face painting distinguished one group from the other and football shirts and football to a large degree I feel is the modern day equivalent eg my tribe.

For me top level boxing is more deserving of a rich lifestyle as there is more sacrifice involved. You can't blame people as much as you do in football if things go wrong as it's just man on man . As a top boxer said recently boxing is a sport you can't play .

You made a valid point on greed and the Fury v Uysk fight . I blame Fury more though as noted for the collapse. All what Uysk wanted is a bigger cut if he won the rematch which is fair enough. Genuinely still gutted about that. Would of been an intriguing fight as Uysk had been training since December for the proposed fight.

                  Who are you? Heyman? Arum???

You know what is really killing boxing is the lack of marquee fights more than once or twice a year. If you managedt o get top fighters to fight each other, guess what, people would watch.

Agree. I like what Dana White is suggesting. Creating his own business model where fights get made which the fans want to see as often happens in the UFC. It's ultimately largely greed which is what is damaging the sport I feel.
