hey so does anyone know why sky sports got rid of the commentator 'Ian Darke'?
I swear his commentating on fights with sky sports years ago was legendary

I really think sky sports missed a trick with him not being on the boxing commentary

I know he's commentating on the football on by sports

I don't even think bt sports have used him properly too tbf

another guy who needs more commentary/pundit role imho is Richie Woodhall,
like listening to him as he is an ex boxer and seems knowledgeable

I think he was poached by BT to do their football commentary.

Because Adam smith wanted to be the main commentator and he is the head of Sky sports boxing

It all got a bit awkward when they got drunk after a PPV event. he went back to Adam Smith’s to watch Smith and Johnny Nelson double team Adam’s wife.

Darke sat in the corner, pants around his shins, beef whistle in the left hand, Sky sports broadcast mic in the other hand (both items of similar size apparently) and he was giving a blow by blow commentary style on Smith and Nelson railing Mrs Smith from both ends.

Smith’s Missus felt violated by the biased commentary style and kicked up a fuss. Tension at work got too much and Smith had to get rid of him.

Nelson wasn’t happy too because Ian started proceedings with “welcome to getting darked with Ian Darke” in reference to the interracial nature of the business in the bedroom. Nelson got him done for discrimination.

Disagree with OP. He was way too negative. Never liked his commentary during the Froch and Naseem Hamed fights. Without fail, he would ruin Naseem's entrances with, "It's not everyone's cup of tea". In fact, I think ALL commentators should remain quiet during ring walks....either hype it up like Rogan does or keep quiet, I swear Sky sometimes kills the mood even before a fight begins.

dont really remember the negativity but yea all commentators should stay quiet for the fighters to enjoy their moment

                    think that was early 2000s
