  • Charlo's in review

They're both 31 years old and both have pretty unspectacular records. Jermell got a gift draw against a literal nobody Castano and curious to see how the rematch turns out. Despite all that, 34-1-1 and 31 years-old and Trout being the biggest name on your record. Seems like a fail to me. Jermall has the slightly better record but definitely got a gift against Korobov, they both get Trout but overall a very chill record with nothing to remark at with 32 wins.

If these guys don't step it up, history is going to forget them with a quickness.

Are there any real Charlo fans out there? If yes, am I worng, and what do you think about how they're being handled?

Jermell Charlo is literally fighting in a undisputed fight in May. If Castano is a no namer to you, then you just don't much about boxing and probably a casual....Nothing wrong with that though. If Jermell wins in May, he would be undisputed and essentially have cleaned out the division. Seems like a pretty good career to me.

Castano’s a damn good fighter too. Jermell starts as the underdog for me.

I just don't much about boxing?

Castano has been pro 10 years, got 17 wins and a draw with an old Lara. 17 wins in 10 years is a pretty slow approach right? Considering he hasn't fought anybody besides an old Lara, isn't it reasonable to say a guy like Castano could easily fly under most viewers radar?

Castano had a good amateur career which I missed but I will say that even when I was watching the amateurs more closely, I wasn't really looking at fighters from Argentina.

How would you know that? Not so great fighters can look good against bums, look at Wilders record. You got to fight and beat good fighters to be good in the pro game. Beating bums as well as c level fights and below doesn't make anybody a damn good fighter.

Evidently… honestly man you seem like a casual. You admitted to me in another thread you hadn’t even seen boxing’s last undisputed fight between Taylor and Catterall.

That’s cool but don’t go dismissing fighters when you clearly haven’t watched or studied enough of them or you’ll just get exposed by more knowledgeable posters.

Lara would have been a better name in either brothers' resume. The Cuban was holding the WBA belt for more than 2 years.

Until now they're still avoiding Lara even when all of them have different trainers. Lara is fighting at 160 now and is readily available, yet Jermall Charlo picked Sulecki.

I'm not watching a lot right now because there isn't a lot to watch, but I've been watching regularly for 45 years. How long have you been watching?

I’ve studied boxing religiously since the 90’s both contemporary and non-contemporary.

If you’re more of a casual now that’s cool, but don’t just dismiss Castano because you haven’t seen enough of him. The guys a good fighter. Very good amateur beat guys like Spence in the amateurs and he’s been faultless as a pro thus far. I think most people would agree he probably should have beat both Lara and Jermell. He definitely beat Jermell IMO.

Castano is either 1st or 2nd best fighter in the division according to everybody. So if somebody ranked that highly is a 'nobody' to you, all the guys ranked below him must be nobodies, and it's impossible for Charlo to ever have a good resume because he has nobody to fight.

"Old Lara" was/is still performing well and many had Castano winning that fight. But he also has wins over Soro/Teixeira. Again, if you think he's a no name fighter, then I don't know what to tell you. Is he a household name? Of course not, but boxing fans should know he is.
