  • Boxers Who have Long Hair.......

I box and have long hair, which is not a problem for amateurs cause your headgear holds your hair out of your eyes, but I was trying to see if I could think of any pro boxers who had long hair and I'm having some trouble coming up with any.... Can any of y'all think of a few?

Here's what I got- Lennox, Malignaggi w/ extensions (haha), ray mancini (not that long though- kinda mulletish) and thats it. kind of a ****ty list, but its late. im sure there are some that i am forgetting, but i can't remember any others right now other than a few kooky fight night characters....

i imagine that having long hair is not the best for boxing, but i am also a professional musician and don't wanna cut it really. im not considering going pro with boxing right now, but i was curious....

Well, it's probably best to keep it as it is, if you're not considering going pro. But if you do go pro, think about how eye-catching it is to see somebody's hair flopping all around when they get hit. It's actually a minus against you when it comes to judges scoring things. It might not be done consciously by the judges, but they will notice that the longer hair gives the impression of being hit with harder force.

yea- kinda like the everlast headgear. it has a velcro strap and can come off in a fight. my boy hit this dude with an uppercut and sent his headgear flying into the crowd- think of that image weighing in on the judges, hahaha.

i was at some pro fights in philly awhile back and this guy had a long ponytail. dont remember his name. he ended losing by decision. but i remember him accidentally whipping the guy in the face with his ponytail or braid whatever.

Nigel Benn had a ponytail for the Watson fight.

But fighters normally avoid having long hair in a fight because as K-Nan said, it catches the eye of the judges when the fighter moves his head whether he actually got hit or not.

just look at girl fights, if you go with long hair, it would be best to have your hair braided tight so its out of your way.
