you can do whatever you want to in the sport of amatuer boxing. They have now had a "masters" class of boxers who are all 35 years old or older. An old coach of mine won the nationals twice for his class and hes like 55 or something. In this masters class there are some stricter regulations on the difference in age between the boxers but it is still there to be done. Amatuer boxing is a great thing for any man to experience, as long as they have been properly prepared for such an event. Keep the hands high and your ass off of the canvas and it'll be one of those experiences that you will happily remember for the rest of your life.........Rockin'

Fight 'cause you love it, not straight for the cash. A hundred G's, good luck kid.
And yes, they will test you for drugs including weed, especially when your rolling in your pro debut.
About going pro, beat the amatuers first. If you can do that then maybe roll with the pros. Just dont expect a cake walk in either.......Rockin'

well i aint going to go pro unless a trainer tells me i am good enough. i am all about learning. i'll trian for 3 or 4 years b4 my first pro fight if i have to.
my goal is to make 100 Gs. after that, my new goal would be to make another 100 Gs.
damn i love to smoke but if i have to quit cuz I'll get punished for a dirty test I'll do it. Its always good to take a break. maybe that Conte mother****er got a weed mask for drug tests. lol.
who said it was going to be a cake walk? if it was easy, it wouldnt be worth it. Besides Imma fight cab drivers, bus drivers, truck drivers, fry cooks, cops, and firemen. I would love to fight a cop. hell, if i go on a winning streak against a bunch of bum police men, I'll call myself Internal Affairs. Dont make no mistake about it, Imma fight me a bunch of bums.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am fairly decent shape, 6'1 175lbs which I think would put me in the light heavyweight? I need to do more cardio work however. How important is weight lifting in the amateurs? I have decent strength, nothing spectacular.
How long should I wait before doing my first fight? I do have *some* boxing background. My grandfather was a boxer in the Philippines and taught me when I was 10 years old. I never fought in a sanctioned event (plenty of sparring and lots of street fighting though).
