  • Manny Pacquiao Is Not An 8 Division World Champion

Many refer to the great Manny Pacquiao as an 8 division champion when that isn't really true. Let's take a look at his world title victories

WBC Flyweight (112) vs Chatchai Sasakul

IBF Super bantamweight (122) vs Lehlohonolo Ledwaba

Never won an official World Title at 126 (No The Ring is not a sanctioning body)

WBC Super featherweight (130) vs Juan Manuel Marquez

WBC Lightweight (135) vs David Diaz

Once again never beat an official
champion at 140 as The Ring is not a sanctioning body

Won the WBO Welterweight (147) by beating Miguel Cotto at a catchweight at 144 pounds. Doesn't count in my book.

Once again won the WBC Light middleweight (154) by beating Antonio Margarito at a catchweight of 150 pounds. Doesn't count in my book.

Won WBA Welterweight (147) vs Keith Thurman
    .

So in reality he is a 5 division champion not 8.

I know some will view this as hate but it's just me pointing out the truth.

I agree, it's a bit promotion and a bit bull****.

The Ring is lineal most of the time. I agree though because he only won one belt in most of those weight classes. Only lineal or undisputed should count, just like with number of title defenses.

It's been argued ad nauseum. Get over it, he is universally recognized as the one and only 8-division champion. Your bias doesn't change that.

Im not being bias, Im laying out facts, You seem to have bias and your argument is basically "He is an 8 division champion because everyone says so"

I'm not making it up, he is an 8-division champion. The books are closed on this one and it will go down in the history books and in his IBHOF legacy. The Ring titles are every bit as relevant as the bogus alphabet titles that exist solely for the purpose of earning sanctioning fees.

I'd be inclined to give him the 154 title being that it was sanctioned (whether I like it or not....though I do agree with the thread starter in principle), but otherwise I agree.

Thats a fair point of view. My point is that usually the ring titles are not highly regarded so it is interesting that now for Pacquiao they are. But I understand your point of view.

It's a bad idea to look for consistency in consensus. At least in boxing.

Yet you’re on the other thread claiming Ortiz is a consensus top 10 and the rankings like the ring prove it ?

Hes better then Wlad Klitschko to ?
