Despite not having a fight scheduled, highly regarded welterweight Errol Spence is staying ready for when the call comes for his next assignment.

Trainer Derrick James tells BoxingScene.com - "We're training six days a week, the only thing we're doing differently is we're not going that long on the mitts or the bag, we're not doing strength-and-conditioning. Other than that, we're sparring, we sparred twelve rounds last week. So he's sparring, we're working, it's like going to work every day."

Currently, the undefeated Spence (21-0, 18 KO's) is the mandatory challenger to IBF welterweight belt-holder, Kell Brook, who is mulling over his various options.

Brook was last seen in the ring last September, after getting stopped in five rounds by middleweight king Gennady Golovkin at the O2 Arena in London. Brook suffered a fractured orbital bone in the contest and underwent surgery.

Brook's promoter, Eddie Hearn, is trying to get him in the ring with domestic rival Amir Khan. There is still some debate on whether or not Brook will even remain at 147 or move up to junior middleweight.

Spence is staying in shape and waiting to receive word on what's next.

"We know there's a fight coming up. We don't talk about it because there's a lot of speculation out there," said James, who is with middleweight Rob Brant this weekend for his fight in Hinckley, Minnesota.

"Al Haymon told him what time it is. So we're just training."

As for when he might box again, James stated - "He'll probably fight in late April, maybe May."

There's no doubt in his mind that Spence is the world's premiere welterweight - with or without a belt.

"Yeah, I've watched the other guys technique and their technical skills and I think he's the best."
