An all-British heavyweight clash between Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce could be made for the first half of next year after Dubois blew away Kyotaro Fujimoto in two rounds at the Copper Box in London.

Dubois flattened the Japanese fighter with a huge right hand, referee Victor Loughlin not even bothering to count, having knocked him down earlier in the round with a left jab.

He will next box in April at the O2 Arena, although that date might prove a bit early for Joyce as he faces Marco Huck for the European title in Hanover on January 11. That would leave Dubois to have another fight in April before potentially big outdoor fight in the summer against Joyce.

If Joyce wins, though, the British, Commonwealth and European heavyweight titles will all be on the line for a clash of the unbeaten London heavyweights, the first time that will have happened since Lennox Lewis knocked out Derek Williams at the Royal Albert Hall in 1992.

“We all want it, Joe wants it, Daniel wants it,” Frank Warren, Dubois’ promoter, said. “It is two unbeaten fighters and it is not the end of the world for the loser, they can come again.”

Warren said he has made a string of offers to other British heavyweights, including Dereck Chisora and David Price, to face Dubois, which were all rejected.

After another stunning victory, Warren said he would fancy putting Dubois in with Dillian Whyte, as he works his way up the world rankings.

“He did everything he had to do,” Warren said. “He is a phenomenal puncher, no doubt about that, he poleaxed the guy and if he catches them he is always likely to do that.

“Next year is all about learning, keeping him busy and getting him fights so that by the end of next year he is mandatory to one of the world champions.”

Dubois said he had always been confident of getting the knockout. “After the first couple of shots I just had to pace myself and let him come to me,” Dubois said. “I knew I had the power, I was really confident what I was going to do tonight. It was a sweet shot and goodnight.”

Joyce, who was ringside for the fight, said he would be happy to face Dubois.

“I’m ready,” he said. “I’ve got no problems. So throw some figures at me and let’s make the fight.

“I’m a seasoned vet when it comes to this stuff. It’s a really good domestic fight.

“Daniel is very predictable in his style but he is a ferocious puncher. I have to be careful not to get caught by anything silly, he has got big power. I can bang too and I am not sure how well he can take a punch. It will be one hell of a fight.”
