You almost always hear Al Haymon’s fighters thanking him. You almost never see the kind of thing Vanes Martirosyan tweeted about the adviser on Monday.
“I want all my boxing fans to know that I’m not happy with my manager, Al Haymon, and my promoter, Tom Brown,” Martirosyan wrote. “They are holding me back! I have too much respect for this bulls*t. They don’t wanna answer my calls, but they answer my tweets! Champs keep cherry picking around each other.”
Martirosyan has been the junior middleweight bridesmaid on multiple occasions, as his record of 36-3-1 (21 KOs) shows. He had a technical draw with Erislandy Lara in a title eliminator in 2012, then fought for a vacant belt against Demetrius Andrade in 2013, losing a split decision.
Martirosyan then won two fights before taking on Jermell Charlo in early 2015, dropping a unanimous decision. Then he won one more before having a rematch with Lara this past May, losing a unanimous decision. He hasn’t fought since.
Martirosyan signed with Haymon in mid-2014. He’d been with promoter Top Rank until early 2014, when he signed with Goossen-Tutor Promotions. After Dan Goossen passed away, Tom Brown — Goossen’s brother-in-law — took over the renamed TGB Promotions, named after the Ten Goose Boxing.
Brown is one of a handful of promoters who work on cards featuring Haymon’s fighters.
