According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, a deal is nearly complete for Amir Khan (23-1, 17KOs) to defend his WBA junior welterweight title against Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27KOs) on HBO-televised date of December 11, likely at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. If the deal is finalized in the next few days, the WBA's mandatory purse bid on September 21 will be canceled.
Schaefer is confident a deal will be finalized prior to the purse bid; giving the outcome a "90%" of happening.
"It's not done, but we're getting there. We made great progress yesterday. I'm just trying to put the final touches on everything," said Schaefer. "I'm actually on my way to the office right now, and I was on the telephone last night and this morning and so on I'm actually trying to basically coordinate everything. But it does look like the fight is going to happen and it looks like it's going to happen at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas on Dec. 11."
