Tuesday will be a glorious one for the purse bid heads.

BoxingScene has confirmed that the WBC has assigned an April 8 hearing for the previously ordered Eduardo ‘Rocky’ Hernandez-Mark Magsayo junior lightweight title eliminator. Their bout was ordered in mid-March but a deal could not be reached in time to avoid the matter being available to the highest bidder.

It is now part of a three purse-bid ‘WBC Knockout’ Tuesday. Also up for grabs are the WBC-ordered Dmitry Bivol-David Benavidez light heavyweight championship and the Christian Mbilli-Diego Pacheco super middleweight title eliminator.

Mexico City’s Hernandez, 37-2 (32 KOs), and the Philippines’ Magsayo, 27-2 (18 KOs), are the two highest rated challengers in the WBC junior lightweight rankings. The winner will become the mandatory challenger to current titlist O’Shaquie Foster, 23-3 (12 KOs), who is due a voluntary defense.

Hernandez has won three straight fights since his own defeat to Foster. Their memorable October 2023 clash in Cancun ended in disaster for the Mexican knockout artist, who was dropped twice before the fight was stopped with just 22 seconds left.

Even more heartbreaking was the fact that Hernandez would have been guaranteed a split decision victory and the WBC title had he made it to the final bell. He was ahead on two scorecards (including an absurd shutout on one) heading into the final round.

A trio of victories have followed, including an impressive twelve-round, unanimous decision of countryman Rene Tellez Giron on February 28 in Gatineau, Canada.

Magsayo carries his own three-fight win streak into the proposed bout.

The 29-year-old from Tagbilaran City, Philippines—now based in Southern California—previously claimed the WBC featherweight title in a January 2022 upset win over Gary Russell Jr. His reign was short-lived, as Magsayo was outpointed by then-unbeaten Rey Vargas less than six months later in San Antonio, Texas.

A second consecutive points loss, this time to Brandon Figueroa in March 2023, ended Magsayo’s time at featherweight. Each of his last three wins have come at junior lightweight, including a second-round stoppage of Bryan Mercado last December 14 in Long Beach, California.
