The four-part docuseries reportedly takes viewers on a sometimes somber, humorous and occasionally surreal ride with “Iron Mike,” as he recounts his turbulent life so far, that goes from troubled youth in Brownsville to a world-famous figure in the public eye, and details many of the unexpected and history-making twists and turns along the way.
Directed by Netflix veteran Floyd Russ, "Tyson" was produced by Jenna Millman, Jacob Miller, and Alexa Ginsburg, with executive producers including Jim Gray, Ian Orefice, Amanda Spain, Jonna McLaughlin, Greg C. Lake, Michael Hughes, Douglas Banker, Floyd Russ, and Bill Simmons.
“I lived like a rat on the street all my life,” Tyson says in the series’ official trailer. “Next thing you know, I’m the biggest shit in the world.
"I was a nut back then, huh? It's hard to navigate your true self when you really don't know who the fuck you are. This is the dark side of me. That’s just who I became – addicted to chaos."
In a parallel announcement, Netflix also revealed that Tyson performing the latest of his critically acclaimed one-man shows, Mike Tyson: Return of the Mike, will debut on the network as a special presentation on Tuesday, November 3.
Tyson has amassed a lengthy history with one-man shows and toured with them extensively. This latest one, his third, was directed by wife, Lakiha Spicer, and filmed last December 14, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
“Return of the Mike” takes a humorous look at Tyson’s life after the glory had faded, detailing his struggles with aging, mental health and addiction.
The show’s advertising tagline reads: “It’s Tyson like you’ve never seen him: unguarded, unpredictable, and genuinely hilarious – proof that the baddest man on the planet might also be one of the funniest.”
