Liam Cameron has claimed that his rematch with Ben Whittaker is in jeopardy because of a dispute regarding whether they fight over 10 or 12 rounds.

They are scheduled to meet again at Resorts World Arena in Birmingham, England on April 20, having fought to a controversial technical draw in October.

On that occasion in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, both fighters tumbled from the ring, and the 27-year-old Whittaker insisted that the injuries he had suffered meant that he was unable to continue, ensuring its conclusion as a technical draw.

The controversy that followed him doing so has, according to Cameron, continued into their rematch. The 34-year-old Cameron followed that contest by signing a promotional agreement with Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions and then a contract to fight Whittaker again on a Boxxer promotion, and asserts that those working with Whittaker are attempting to change the conditions involved in their fight.

“There is a mess about with the contracts that nobody is letting me speak about, so I’m going to try on here,” he told talkSPORT. “We have signed for a 12-round fight, and they are trying to push it for a 10-rounder, doing everything that they can, and I’m not budging.

“I’m having a 12-round fight. I tried to do it on Gloves Are Off, and they wouldn’t let me speak about it.

“And on Sky Sports, they didn’t air my interview.

“This is the problem we are having. I signed a 12-round contract fight. When I was signing the contract, I thought, ‘He couldn't barely get through five rounds, this is weird’.

“So a couple of weeks went by, and they tried to send another contract for a 10-rounder. That shows the confidence levels; I’m ready for 15 rounds.”

The promising Whittaker has only once fought a 10-round fight – a unanimous decision victory over Eworitse Ezra Arenyeka in June 2024 – and has never previously gone 12 rounds.

“It is signed for 12 rounds,” Cameron continued. “There has been a mistake there.

“They thought they sent me a 10-round contract, but really it is a 12-rounder.

“[Warren] is saying that we are not budging no matter what.”
