Joe Calzaghe is set to release a song; the soft-rock anthem will celebrate Joe's in-ring achievements, as well as pouring scorn on his critics. Joe teamed up with his father, trainer Enzo Calzaghe, to cut the track. Enzo used to work as a session musician; he has previously recorded songs with pop legends Bucks Fizz and Paul Young.
Enzo told Walesonline that the song, "Gonna Miss Him Now He’s Gone," will be a celebration of Joe's journey. “It’s about the passage of his life," he explained. “We sing about going from the Arms to the Garden. That’s about going from Cardiff Arms Park to Madison Square Garden. We sing ‘Hopkins, Jones and Lacy, those Yankees have been tamed.’ It’s the whole story. And it says how he met the Queen and shook her hand.”
Enzo also revealed that Joe provided backing vocals for the track, although rumours that Joe waited for nearly ten-years before agreeing to perform his parts have yet to be proven, ditto for claims that the B-side is going to be called If He Wants to Fight Me He Can Come to Wales, although it is incredibly likely that Joe injured his hand when playing air guitar on the song.
“Joe is singing on it too,” continued Enzo. “He is singing ‘I’ll miss him when he’s gone.’ But he was laughing and saying, ‘I can’t miss me, I’m here!’ It’s been turned into something a bit like the Chilli Peppers, a bit rockish. I like the style of it. The tune remained the same but the roughness of the chords changed from a beat ballad.”
The song is available through I-Tunes; there is also an album in the works.
