Heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte (20-1, 15 KOs) will make his debut in the United States in the summer, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport.

Hearn is looking to build Whyte's name towards a world title shot - potentially in the fall.

Whyte's sole defeat came in the fall of 2015, when he squared off in a grudge match with current IBF, WBA, IBO champion Anthony Joshua. Whyte had Joshua hurt early on, but the Olympic gold medal winner recovered and then stopped Whyte in the seventh round.

Joshua is already booked in for a fall return, either in a rematch against Wladimir Klitschko or a mandatory defense against Kubrat Pulev.

Hearn is hoping to get him a crack at WBC champion Deontay Wilder or WBO champion Joseph Parker.

If Whyte is able to capture a world title, it would make a rematch with Joshua a very huge event in the UK. Whyte has been out of the ring since last December, when he won a very close split decision over Dereck Chisora in a Fight of The Year war at Manchester Arena.

"We're going to look to box Dillian in the States in the summer and then we want a world title fight in September or October, whether that's [Joseph] Parker, whether that's Deontay Wilder," Hearn exclusively told Sky Sports.

"He's well ranked in those governing bodies. He's a great opponent, but I don't think they really want to fight him. I don't think Dillian Whyte is the kind of guy you want to pick as a world champion.

"He's a handful, he can punch, he's got a great chin. He's a handful even in the press conference, you might have to roll around with him at those as well. He's a nightmare for people, Dillian Whyte, but for some reason Anthony Joshua wants to do it all again with him. That gives you a good indication - AJ wants real fights - he wants to entertain the public."
