Former world champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1, 30KOs) is looking to return to the ring on a date in late March. Last month Canelo lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight was a huge financial success, with over $150 million in revenue generated and over 2.2 million pay-per-view purchases.

Canelo wants to have three fights in 2014. He had planned to have three bouts in 2013, but there wasn't enough time due to the training and promotion for the match with Mayweather.

There are two options that interest Canelo for next year - a fight against Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31KOs) or a catch-weight bout against WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. One thing Canelo said he won't do is have another fight at a catch-weight. The bout with Mayweather was held at 152-pounds.

"The one thing I was taught with the Mayweather fight is not to give any advantages in weight, but do [my fights] in my actual division. [Martinez] is feasible, because he stated that he has no problem to drop under the middleweight limit of 160-pounds, if necessary."
