Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is predicting a shocking outcome when IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) faces IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) in an HBO Pay-Per-View unification from Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The majority of the fans and press are picking Golovkin to win by knockout. De La Hoya traveled over to Canada a few days ago to watch Lemieux train. Both he and Golden Boy partner Bernard Hopkins were very impressed by what they saw.

There is no question that Lemieux is one of the most dangerous opponents in Golovkin's career, but the odds are heavily stacked against the hard-punching Canadian.

“A lot of people are sleeping on Lemieux. I was in Canada the other day. This guy is looking sharp. He’s looking very, very sharp, very fast, very strong, so it’s going to be quite interesting who wins that one," De La Hoya said. "I think this is Triple G’s first test ever in his career, so we’ll see if he passes."

"I think people are expecting Triple G to win. I truly feel that people are going to be shocked by what Lemieux brings to the table on Saturday night, October 17th, live from the Garden. Could you ever imagine a fighter from Kazahstan and a fighter from Canada selling out the Garden? Only in America, right? It’s pretty cool."

De La Hoya and Hopkins have given Lemieux some advise on how to proceed with the fight and the danger involved with Golovkin's punching power. Their advice has been very limited, as they believe Lemieux possesses the necessary boxing knowledge to get the job done.

We’re given him tips here and there, me and Bernard, but he knows what to do. Lemieux is an excellent, excellent boxer. It’s incredible. So I can’t wait to see him use his boxing abilities along with his power in October," De La Hoya said.
