The World Boxing Association wanted to clear up any confusion regarding tomorrow night's fight between Alfonso Blanco and Sergey Khomitsky in Venezuela.
The winner of that fight will be recognized as the WBA interim-middleweight champion - but victor won't receive that recognition until October 25th.
Currently, the UK's Chris Eubank Jr. is the WBA's interim beltholder. But because of inactivity, the sanctioning body issued a warning that he would be stripped of the title.
Because of a recent promotional change, and other problems, his team directly applied to the WBA to make a title defense against Tony Jeter on October 24th in Sheffield, England.
After Eubank makes that defense, the belt will be immediately vacated. Only then, on October 25th, will the winner between Blanco and Khomitsky be recognized as the acting interim-champion - and they must defend that title by February 25 of 2016.
All of the parties were informed of this situation.
The WBA's regular middleweight champion is Danny Jacobs and he faces Peter Quillin on December 5th. The WBA's "super champion" at the weight is Gennady "GGG" Golovkin and he takes on IBF king David Lemieux in a unification on October 17th.
