  • Comments Thread For: Where Does Devin Haney Go After Losing To Ryan Garcia?

Devin Haney's lost night was out of character, out of sorts, out of hope. All the things that happen when several stiff punches land to the face. On Monday's episode of ProBox TV's "Deep Waters," the crew including former world champions Chris Algieri and Paulie Malignaggi reflected upon former undisputed lightweight champion Haney's first loss, at age 25.

There is only one way he can go (he won't go to 147 yet) mandatory vs Martin

Ryan has shown heart as well as speed. He might not be a defensive wizard like Mayweather, but he is quicker than most at 140. He should go to 147 to make weight easier. Haney is still Haney but he has to recover and move on.

The saving grace for Haney is he's still champ and the WBC is corrupt. So Haney will get another big payday.

On a side note, Dad/trainers need to be smart with their son/fighters and not overmatch them in sparring too young. Watching Haney spar Tank at 17 you could see the same body reaction at that age as you do now. Im not naive to think when my team goes to another gym that they're just going to "work" with us but if 1 of my guys gets buckled, no shame in throwing the towel in sparring.

Haney's only hope, to rekindle his career, is a rematch with Garcia at a catch-weight! He's not strong enough for 147. He's outgrown 140, and the weight cut is too much for a guy like Subriel Matias! I'm not even sure he can beat Sandor Martin @ 140? Tank, Shakur, and Teofimo, have no reason to fight him because he got washed, and he was never a draw in the 1st place! Lastly, Pitbull has a fight on August 3rd in L.A.! No Bueno!

To hell honestly. Let the power hitters (Teo, Tank, Ryan, Matias, Russell ant Cruz) bang
