Robert Meriwether hopes this company he keeps will show itself Wednesday against undefeated Victor Manuel Lopez, as part of ProBox TV’s “Wednesday Night Fights” series at the ProBox TV Events Center in Plant City, Florida.

Meriwether (5-0, 2 KOs) has sparred some of the best fighters today, including Devin Haney, Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson, and he hopes those experiences will help mold him into the fighter he expects to become. Now, in his second fight in three months on ProBox TV, Meriwether has another opportunity to show how those lessons have served him.

It will be his first six-round fight, against his first undefeated opponent. But Meriwether insisted his pedigree means he is built for this moment.

“I have been sparring them since 15, 16 years old – just learning from those guys,” Meriwether told BoxingScene. “It has taught me a lot. I have seen what those champions have got. Tank [Gervonta Davis] has power, Devin has a great jab, and Shakur is very smart with his distance, and Jorge Linares is really fast.”

Being around the best in the sport leaves you no other option but to get better, if you stick with it.

“I have been able to put [my sparring experiences with elite fighters] into my arsenal and use it for myself,” Meriwether said.

Meriwether has been in Davis’ camp several times, but most notably for his pay-per-view fight against Leo Santa Cruz, sparring Davis two or three times a week.

“I was in Tank’s camp a couple of times, training with them, running with them sometimes,” said Meriwether. “Seeing that worth ethic that he has had throughout his career has rubbed off on me. With my dad, we are always training. We are training night, morning – it doesn’t matter what time. We get in the gym and make sure we get that workout in.”
