MIAMI - Super welterweight world champion and Cuban sensation Erislandy "The American Dream" Lara (22-2-2, 13 KOs) successfully defended his title against former world champion and Slovenian Jan Zaveck (35-4, 19 KOs) in a Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN show from Miami's Hialeah Park Racing & Casino.

Due to weather in the area, the main event was moved up to ensure the fight happened. From the opening bell, Lara controlled the action by landing heavy blows. In the third round, the ref stopped the action with Zaveck against the ropes, unable to continue. The ref called a stop to the fight at :41 into the third round. [Click Here To Read More]

Well I thought it was premature, but the man obviously knows more than I do. Hopefully he is alright and that sharp pain is nothing serious.

Zaveck: "Good Stoppage, I Was Getting Hit Too Much"

Yeah, you are not supposed to get hit much in boxing.

Hit too much? You stopped fighting mid-round, obviously the ref was gonna stop it.

Considering the matchup and the ill conceived venue (outdoors in Florida), this may have been an all time low for PBC.

The injury looks like it occurred after Zaveck already quit and Lara lands a straight right on Zaveck's jaw.

This fight never should've been made and Lara should be embarrassed being faced with such a low quality opponent. It's on Lara really to step up and pick better guys. Both Zaveck & Rodriguez were retired WW's.

When they put on such vast mismatches, they never have a satisfying ending. The opponent gets blown out so bad the fans feel cheated.
