  • Comments Thread For: Buddy McGirt: Haney vs. Garcia Should Not Be Taking Place

Few men know the sport of boxing better than legendary trainer Buddy McGirt. McGirt led Arturo Gatti to battle in his three bloody wars against Micky Ward, but the thought of watching Ryan Garcia step through the ropes to face Devin Haney this Saturday (April 20) is distressing - even for him. Garcia and his recent antics across social media have raised questions about the fighter's mental health heading into his WBC super lightweight title fight against Haney and McGirt revealed he is surprised the bout is being allowed to take place.

I like and respect Buddy as much as the next guy, but this is the same cat that told Gatti he should use his jab and try to OUTBOX Floyd.

So his judgement can be a bit suspect at times LOL

Easy to say when none of your money is on the line, millions of dollars being already invested, not to mention the time.

Look at the BBBofC on Benn's fight with Eubank. It was canceled on the eve of the fight. They didn't care. It's not their money that's been poured into the fight.

An out of shape guy is hazardous to himself and I agree with Buddy on this. Ryans brain is already scrambled and Haney is going to slap him all night. Ryans heart isn't in it, but the money is like a flame to a moth

Slap sounds about right, since Haney can't crack an egg.

48 boxing trainers also gave their fighters advise on how to beat Floyd. So their judgment can be a bit suspect at times. Amiright?

There should have been a different opponent announced weeks ago. Garcia's in a bad place mentally. I'm sure there were a few decent guys who would have stepped up to save the show. It hasn't sold well anyway. Allowing this fight to go on is a bad look for boxing!
