His name has come up when discussing Floyd Mayweather’s opponents for 2014, but WBC/WBA junior welterweight champion Danny “Swift” Garcia is focused on building his own career apart, and not chasing a fight with Mayweather (45-0, 26KOs).

Garcia (27-0, 16KOs) is only concerned with his next fight, which will take place on March 15th at the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. The opponent is Mauricio Herrera (20-3, 7KOs).

It was believed that Garcia would move up to 147 in 2014, to go up against the best at welterweight, but he remained at 140.

“We’re focused on my next fight on March 15. If I face Floyd in the future, well wow that’d be great... if not there’s no problem, I’m ok,” Garcia said.
