This coming Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) of Puerto Rico will make the first defense of his title against former champion Daniel Geale (31-3, 16KOs) of Australia.

If Cotto wins, the next likely fight is a huge showdown with Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in the fall. Cotto also owes a mandatory defense to WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin.

At the moment, Cotto's trainer, Freddie Roach, is fully focused on Geale. Following the defense against Geale, Roach wants the fight with Canelo. According to Cotto, there is a verbal deal in place to face the Mexican star next. Roach believes the winner of Cotto-Canelo will move forward to a fight with Golovkin.

"Cotto works hard, he trains tremendously. Again, I hope Geale gives us some rounds because we've been off for a while. And then I hope that we go into the Canelo fight...that would be great to have him next. And then the winner of that fight will probably fight Triple G.....and then maybe, I think, it's time [for Cotto to] call it a day," Roach told BoxingScene.com.
